Project 3: a(live) capsule
This project we were given 2 containers of different sizes. With these 2 metal box we were tasked to design a container cafe. We were to produce an effective and well thought out solutions for to compact design prroblems, by following proper ergonomic conditions
Idea Development

12000mm x 2400mm x 2850mm
6000mm x 2400mm x 2850mm
The Shorter one is half of the length of the longer container. With these two containers we had to research various positions that could connect the 2 containers.

Drawings Development

This was the start of my idea development. It had no interesting aspects and was just a common cafe.

This was the 2nd drawing development

This is the added suggestions by the lecturer during tutorials.

This was the 3rd drawing development.
Process of making the Model
The first thing I did when I started the Model, I cut the intricate pieces of the ground floor wall. I also cut all the small acrylic pieces that I was going to use.

I built the base with MDF boards before I started building the model.

Then I got started on the 1st floor, by doing the walls and glueing the acrylic sheets parts together

I built the kitchen cabinets
Then i started on making the miniature wall display to fit into my cafe.
The stairs was made after I started with the threads and risers of the stairs.

When all the walls were completed i proceeded with doing the furnitures for the cafe and also the railings.

I also made the chairs and glued all the furniture onto the floor.
After, I did the roof to the middle part of the 1st floor container

I then made the shade covering above the walkway and the balcony railing using red acrylic sheets
I made the toilet wc and the sink below the balcony.

The windows and doors are fixed to the ground floor of the container cafe model.

When all the construction was done, I built the removable parts of the container as is required of us.

As finishing touches I added connection of the wall display and added it on the 1st floor.
Below the 1st floor I added extra reinforcements to make sure that the actual cafe does not topple or collapse at one end.

For the base I used cork boards to create the topography and I chose this material because it looks clean and looks suitable to represent the ground.

Presentation Day

On the presentation day we all presented our works and the drink and desert we had chose at the beginning of the semester

This is how I presented my food and Drink.

Reflection
Project 3 started out alright with building the model of the container cafe. I had faced only a few problems while I was constructing the model. The overall structure was easily managed but the details like the windows and the doors I had a few trial and error. It took me a long while to figure out the mechanism for the windows and doors. The swing for window took almost 3 hours to figure out as it was more difficult because I had already done the walls but prepared no space for the mechanism of window panel to fit. Thus, I had to restart a few things and that took time.
As for the board, the time we had to create the board were not enough for me. I had to take 2 full days to create a sketch up model of my Cafe model leaving me with less than 48 hours to finish up my presentation board editing. Also I made a few mistakes as I did not send my final edit to my lecturer for corrections and also I did not think I would have the time to finish up the additional 3D on my section drawing.
Finally, the presentation day went smoothly and I managed to present the best I could. The evaluator commented on my workmanship but I do have to work on my presenting skills and storytelling sequences. All that I hope to improve on for the semesters to come.
